Heath-Whyte joins Tyndale House Old Testament project
Old Testament Project
1st June 2022
Tyndale House is pleased to announce the appointment of George Heath-Whyte to our research staff. Heath-Whyte joins the Old Testament Onomastics project as a postdoctoral Research Associate.
“It’s a great pleasure to have George on the Old Testament project team,” said Dr Caleb Howard, Research Fellow in Old Testament and Ancient Near East.
“He’s a diligent scholar and a faithful Christian. His training in Assyriology and his love for Scripture is already proving to be a great asset to the team and to Tyndale House in general. We’re glad to have him here.”
Heath-Whyte received his PhD in Archaeology from the University of Cambridge, where he studied the social and religious history of Ancient Assyria and Babylonia. He has also conducted research into the naming practices of Judean exiles living in Babylonia, and into ancient Babylonian patterns of life.
As part of the Tyndale House Old Testament project team, George will work on the personal names found in the Akkadian cuneiform tablets from the ancient city of Ugarit.
The Tyndale House Onomastics Project is currently cataloguing personal names from sources found in ancient sites that overlap with the Old Testament. This project will produce an extensive database of biblical names and survey available data from a wide range of ancient Near Eastern corpora.
